Cable median barrier approved for some Panola County highways

Cable median barrier will soon be installed along sections of three roadways in Panola County according to plans awarded in February by the Texas Department of Transportation.

“Cable barriers consist of several strands of high-tension cable and are designed to catch vehicles in the median before they cross over into oncoming traffic,” said Marshall Area Engineer Jacob Vise.

Sections of roadway scheduled to receive cable barriers are:

  • US 59 in Panola County from US 79 N to US 59 S, 2.0 miles
  • US 79 in Panola County from US 59 N to US 79 S, 2.6 miles
  • SH 149 in Panola County from US 79 S to 0.8 miles S of SH 315, 1.8 miles

H.V. Caver, Inc. of Atlanta, TX was awarded the project with a low bid of $1,105,559.

Weather permitting, work on the project is expected to begin in May and should take about four months to complete.
