I-45 NHHIP commitment to affordable housing

TxDOT is making $30 million dollars available to rebuild affordable housing stock in the four communities most impacted by the I-45 NHHIP; Fifth Ward, Third Ward, Independence Heights, and the Near Northside. And TxDOT is reaching out to residents in these communities to get their input on where they believe the housing can be built, and what types of housing should be constructed.

The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation is managing the overall effort, and Houston-based AB Land Planning is doing the outreach. In 2025, the company visited each of the four communities during the first round of outreach. That feedback led to the creation of the Draft Housing Revitalization Plan, which AB Land Planning is sharing with residents.
