I-35 Capital Express North Project

Project overview

The project will add one high-occupancy vehicle managed lane in each direction along I-35 between SH 45 North and US 290 East. In addition, the project will reconstruct bridges, relocate and reconstruct entrance and exit ramps, add a diverging diamond interchange (DDI) at Wells Branch Parkway, add pedestrian and bicycle paths and make additional safety and mobility improvements within the project limits.

Major impacts/activity

The I-35 Capital Express North project is entering its next construction phase. What does this mean for drivers?

  • You will start to see northbound and southbound I-35 frontage roads between SH 45 North and Grand Avenue Parkway reduced to one lane in some areas as crews begin to widen the frontage roads
  • Increased construction activity is expected on the frontage roads through 2026, weather permitting
  • Please use caution when driving through work zones, follow all directional and speed limit signs, and watch out for crews and equipment
