Highway:
US 59
Length:
8.809 miles
Limits:
From International Blvd. to 0.12 Miles South of E. Corridor Road (Airport)
Existing US 59 corridor is 6-lane undivided highway that will be widened and upgraded to freeway standard to provide 3 mainlanes in each direction and 3-lane frontage roads in each direction. This project will also include grade separated interchanges at Shiloh Drive, Del Mar Blvd., University Blvd., and Jacaman Road intersections. The project will include a sidewalk along the west frontage road and a shared use path for pedestrians and bicyclists along the east frontage road.
Approximately 209.2 acres of additional right-of-way will be acquired for this project at scattered locations along both sides of existing roadway. Existing utility conflicts will be relocated to proposed right-of-way and will adjusted at several crossings throughout the limits of the project. Utility accommodations are being addressed at the onset of construction.
The estimated construction cost of the project is approximately $311,492,995.71 and is being funded by 80% Federal funds and 20% State funds.
The project will be constructed in 4 Phases.
In Phase 0, all utilities will be relocated and construct cross culverts.
In Phase 1, construct northbound frontage roads and detention ponds.
In Phase 2, construct southbound frontage roads.
In Phase 3, the main lanes and bridges at intersections will be constructed.
In Phase 4, final construction and striping. Traffic flow will continue and businesses will maintain access throughout construction. Temporary closures at intersections will be required when setting beams for the bridge construction.
