County:
Webb
Highway:
IH 35
Limits:
Limits of entire project combined extend along IH 35 from Shiloh Drive to 0.80 miles north of US 59/IH 35 Intersection, and along US 59 from 0.207 mi west of US 59/IH 35 intersection to 0.732mi east of US 59/IH 35 intersection.
This project will convert the existing IH 35 railroad underpass to a railroad overpass, just north of Shiloh Drive.
The main lanes are being widened to allow for 3 through lanes in each direction, with auxiliary lanes at ramp locations.
A frontage road turn around will be constructed on the north side of the railroad crossing. South of the railroad crossing, the northbound frontage road (San Dario Ave.) will merge onto existing San Isidro Drive.
Similarly, southbound San Isidro Drive will now be able to cross under the newly constructed IH-35 overpass, adjacent to the railroad tracks, and continue along the southbound frontage road to the Shiloh intersection. Direct connector ramps #5 and #8 which connect the westbound and eastbound US 59 directly to southbound IH 35 will also be completed.
Additionally, this project will includes upgrades to high mast illumination, installation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) components such as cameras and dynamic message signs, and construction of pedestrian items (curb ramps, pedestrian rails, sidewalks).
There was no new right-of-way required for this project. Railroad agreements were required for the proposed IH 35 bridge over the Union Pacific railroad, Direct Connector # 5 from westbound US 59 to southbound IH 35, and for a proposed drainage structure crossing under the railroad tracks. Utility accommodations were required and have been completed.
The estimated construction cost of the project is approximately $114,884,943.92.
This project was funded by 100% state dollars.
