I-35 NEX Central

Project overview

TxDOT awarded the Design-Build contract for the I-35 NEX Central Project to Alamo NEX Construction, LLC, a Ferrovial Construction and Webber, LLC joint venture company. The project consists of the design, construction, and maintenance of 9.5 miles of non-tolled improvements along I-35 and runs through northeast San Antonio, Live Oak, Selma, and Schertz in Bexar and Guadalupe counties.

  • Project limits: I-35 from I-410 N to FM 3009
  • Design-Build cost: $1.5B
  • Contractor: Alamo NEX Construction, LLC
  • Construction start date: June 2022
  • Estimated completion date: late 2027

The project consists of three elevated lanes, including two mainlanes and one high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction. The I-35 elevated lanes will provide direct connections to I-410 North and Loop 1604 West.

Operational improvements will include the construction of ramps to connect I-35 mainlanes to elevated lanes, and reconfiguration of entrance and exit ramps throughout the project.
