Major upcoming traffic shifts

Prepare for new traffic patterns across the project corridor.

Eastbound US 290 William Cannon Bypass

  • As early as the night of Wednesday, Dec. 18, eastbound US 290 drivers heading toward downtown Austin will have the opportunity to bypass the William Cannon Drive intersection.
  • For local traffic heading to William Cannon Drive, McCarty Lane and Old Fredericksburg Road, one lane will be maintained along the existing eastbound US 290 roadway.
  • Westbound US 290 traffic will be unaffected.
  • This configuration is anticipated to be in place for approximately six months.
  • All major activity is subject to change and weather permitting.

Traffic shifts to US 290 frontage roads between Circle Drive/South View Road and Scenic Brook Drive

  • On Nov. 14, the Thunderbird Road temporary intersection was removed.
  • Westbound US 290 drivers will remain on the westbound US 290 frontage road to reach Cirlce Drive/South View Road.
  • Eastbound US 290 drivers will U-turn at Scenic Brook Drive to access the new westbound US 290 frontage road and Circle Drive/South View Road.
  • Drivers leaving Circle Drive/Mowinkle Drive north of US 290 will cross the Circle Drive bridge and make a left turn to access the new eastbound US 290 frontage road.
  • Drivers leaving South View Road south of US 290 will make a right turn to access the new eastbound US 290 frontage road.
  • All activity is subject to change and weather permitting.

RM 1826 cross-street bridge closure

  • On Tuesday, Oct. 22,traffic shifted to the US 290 frontage roads between El Rey Boulevard and Convict Hill Road. Cross-street access for RM 1826 at US 290 closed.
  • Access to RM 1826 is maintained from the eastboundĀ US 290 frontage road.
  • U-turns are in place to assist drivers heading from RM 1826 to westbound US 290, and from westbound US 290 to RM 1826.
