Residents, visitors and businesses utilize the JFK Causeway (SH 358/PR 22) between the Corpus Christi mainland and North Padre Island and Mustang Island.

The Corpus Christi District hosted a public scoping meeting on Oct. 3, 2024. Approximately 70 people attended the in-person meeting while the virtual meeting attracted approximately 700 unique visitors. A total of 82 comments were submitted. Those comments and more details related to meeting can be found in the public scoping meeting summary report.

Since hosting the public scoping meeting in October 2024, TxDOT further studied the project’s proposed alternatives. As a result, three of the five preliminary alternatives have been removed while two others are advancing as reasonable alternatives. For details including an explanation of the alternatives removed from consideration, those advancing for further consideration and the next steps in the process, please read the latest newsletter:

Public involvement is a critical component of TxDOT’s project development process. TxDOT encourages public input on mobility and safety concerns within the study area, the proposed alternatives, environmental constraints, or any future development plans. During the Environmental Impact Study process, there will be additional opportunities for the public to learn more, ask questions, and provide input.
