The project is being constructed by Flatiron Constructors, Inc.
This project will significantly improve mobility and the movement of traffic between SH 121 and I-820. It will:
- Reconstruct I-820 between Randol Mill Road and Trinity Boulevard
- Widen to 3 general mainlanes and 1 auxiliary lane each direction
- Construct new bridge structure over Trinity River
- Access ramp improvements
- Reconstruct I-820 between Trinity Boulevard and I-820/SH 121/SH 183 Interchange
- Widen to 5 northbound mainlanes (2 mainlanes from I-820, and 3 mainlanes from SH 121)
- Widen to 6 southbound mainlanes (3 mainlanes to I-820, and 3 mainlanes to SH 121)
- Construct continuous northbound frontage road over Trinity Railway Express
- Access ramp improvements
- Reconstruct and improve SH 121 access ramps
- Reconstruct the SH 10/Hurst Blvd bridge over I-820 and add a north-to-south turnaround bridge
- Reconstruct the I-820/SH 121 Interchange to include
- Widen SH 121 to three mainlanes in each direction
- Replace existing I-820 southbound to SH 121 southbound direct connector
- Replace existing SH 121 northbound to I-820 northbound direct connector
- Add new I-820 northbound to SH 121 southbound direct connector
- Add new SH 121 northbound to I-820 southbound direct connector
The limits of major construction on the project are on I-820 between Randol Mill Rd and W Pipeline Rd, and on SH 121 between Spruce Park Rd and I-820.
The project was awarded for $174 million.
Construction began July 2018.
Substantial completion is scheduled for 2024.
Yes. Lane closures will be scheduled during non-peak travel times to minimize impact to the traveling public. These times are weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., weeknights between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., all day Saturday, and all day Sunday (as needed). There will be coordination with major events in the local area and with major events in Tarrant County to promote mobility to and from those events.
