Construction is set to begin December 1, 2025, on a major improvement project along SH 6 aimed at enhancing safety, relieving congestion, and improving mobility for travelers in the region. TxDOT has awarded a $671 million contract to Fluor Heavy Civil, LLC to carry out the work, marking a significant investment in infrastructure in the Bryan/College Station area.
The project will expand the main lanes from four to six (three in each direction), reconfigure auxiliary lanes, and introduce collector-distributor lanes at key locations to support safer and more efficient merging. Interchanges will be upgraded to improve traffic flow, and new shared use paths will be added to accommodate both bicycles and pedestrians—ensuring the corridor serves all users more effectively.
