19.10 On-Street Parking

Where on-street parking is provided, it must be provided in accordance with guidance on accessible parking spaces including the minimum number of accessible parking spaces required. All accessible parking spaces shall be marked with the that contrasts with the pavement surface. All on-street parking spaces shall be identified with a sign displaying the
Additional guidance for on-street parking is best taken from the Sections R214 (the number of accessible spaces), and R309 (dimension requirements).
Additional guidance for facilities such as safety rest areas, buildings, and parking facilities is found in Section 208 Parking Spaces.

19.10.1 Parallel Accessible Parking

Where space between the curbline and ROW line is greater than 9-ft wide, parallel accessible spaces must be provided which are 24-ft long by 13-ft wide. See . These dimensions will accommodate both the space for the vehicle as well as the accessible aisle; however, an accessible aisle shall not be marked to ensure that drivers can position the parked vehicle in a manner that best accommodates their loading and unloading needs. This parking space must be connected to the sidewalk by a curb ramp which shall not reduce the dimensions of the parking space and shall be located at either end of the parking space. Where parallel accessible spaces adjacent to sidewalks less than or equal to 9-ft are provided, the parking space width may match the adjacent parking space widths but the accessible space must be located nearest a crosswalk at the end of the block or nearest a midblock crosswalk so that access to the street can be served by these adjacent curb ramps. For all accessible parking spaces, the center 50% of the parking space along the sidewalk must be free of obstructions (e.g., parking meters and sign posts) to allow for wheelchair ramp deployment.

19.10.2 Perpendicular Accessible Parking

Perpendicular accessible spaces require a van accessible aisle with a minimum width of 8-ft extending the full length of the parking space. The access aisle must be marked, must be at street level, and shall not encroach on the traveled way. Two adjacent perpendicular or angled accessible spaces may share a common access aisle where front and rear entry parking is permitted. Where an access aisle serves only one parking space and parking is restricted to either front entry or rear entry orientation, the access aisle shall be located on the passenger side of the vehicle. The provides specific guidance for pavement markings and signing for accessible parking

19.10.3 Angled Accessible Parking

Angled accessible spaces must be a minimum of 11-ft wide with a minimum 5’ wide accessible aisle extending the full length of the parking space. The access aisle must be marked, must be at street level, and shall not encroach on the traveled way.

19.10.4 Curb Ramp

Curb ramps that access accessible parking spaces are not required to include detectable warnings unless they also serve pedestrian street crossings. The designer has the option of providing detectable warnings or not. provides an examples of the curb ramp options.
