19.10.1 Parallel Accessible Parking
Where space between the curbline and ROW line is greater than 9-ft wide, parallel accessible spaces must be provided which are 24-ft long by 13-ft wide. See
. These dimensions will accommodate both the space for the vehicle as well as the accessible aisle; however, an accessible aisle shall not be marked to ensure that drivers can position the parked vehicle in a manner that best accommodates their loading and unloading needs. This parking space must be connected to the sidewalk by a curb ramp which shall not reduce the dimensions of the parking space and shall be located at either end of the parking space. Where parallel accessible spaces adjacent to sidewalks less than or equal to 9-ft are provided, the parking space width may match the adjacent parking space widths but the accessible space must be located nearest a crosswalk at the end of the block or nearest a midblock crosswalk so that access to the street can be served by these adjacent curb ramps. For all accessible parking spaces, the center 50% of the parking space along the sidewalk must be free of obstructions (e.g., parking meters and sign posts) to allow for wheelchair ramp deployment.
