14.11 Contraflow Left Interchange (CLI)

Contraflow Left Interchanges (CLI) are a grade-separated interchange type that separate the left-turn movements of an interchange so that traffic from multiple approaches can make left-turn movements onto a freeway during the same signal phase. CLIs use channelized lanes for left-turns to allow a higher volume of left-turn traffic through the interchange in one signal phase. This interchange type increases traffic flow through the intersection and reduces the likelihood of congestion and backups that cause rear-end crashes. See for an illustration of a Contraflow Left Interchange. Refer to on TxDOT.gov for additional information.
