The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is proposing improvements to Farm-to-Market Road (FM) 1516 from Interstate Highway 10 East (I-10 E) to FM 78 in Converse and Bexar County, Texas.

The proposed improvements would expand FM 1516 from two to four lanes; and include left turn lanes, raised medians and the addition of sidewalks and bicycle accommodations. It also includes the addition of drainage ditches and an underground storm water system. The purpose of the proposed project is to improve mobility, reduce traffic delays and improve safety conditions along the corridor.

The existing right-of-way (ROW) width varies from 80 to 120 feet. The proposed ROW width varies for a majority of the project from 90 to 178 feet, and the proposed ROW is approximately 15.2 acres. The proposed project would result in one commercial displacement and no residential displacements. Habitat for regulated species may be impacted by the proposed project. Traffic noise impacts may occur with the proposed project. A total of approximately 1.8 acres of floodplains, and 0.2 acres of wetlands and Waters of the US may be permanently impacted by the proposed project. The project crosses five streams.
