US 87 (Main Street) - Boerne

The Texas Department of Transportation has partnered with the city of Boerne and Kendall County to invest nearly $2 million in U.S. Highway 87, or Main Street, running through historic downtown Boerne. This roadway carries between 10,000 and 15,000 vehicles per day.

Improvements

The investment will include a number of new or upgraded traffic signals along a 2.4-mile stretch running from Wal-Mart to Farm to Market 474. Work on the Cibolo Creek bridge will also take place, widening the bridge to accommodate heavier traffic flow.

Timeframe and funding

The eight-month project is targeted to finish in time for the 2013-2014 school year to start, pending weather and other circumstances. Funding for the project comes from traditional sources, including state and federal motor fuels taxes and state registration fees. Proposition 12 state grants doled out by the legislature are being used to work on the Cibolo Creek bridge.
