North Tarrant Express
The North Tarrant Express (NTE) is dedicated to improving mobility along north I-35W, northeast I-820 and SH 121/183 Airport Freeway through a regionally supported TEXpress Lane system.
NTE | I-820 and SH 121/183
The NTE | I-820 and SH 121/183 project began in Oct. 2010, and reached substantial completion in Oct. 2014 – nine months ahead of schedule. In addition to design, right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation, the project rebuilt and expanded 13 miles along I-820 and SH 121/183 from I-35W to the SH 121 split. This $2.1 billion project rebuilt the existing four to six mainlanes and added four TEXpress lanes along with frontage roads and auxiliary lanes to approximately double the existing capacity.
The next phase of I-35W from US 81/287 to Eagle Parkway reached substantial completion in June 2023. This public-private project rebuilt 6.7 miles of I-35W and added four TEXpress Lanes, auxiliary lanes and some frontage roads.
Mandatory Capacity Improvement Project
NTE | I-35W
The $1.6 billion NTE | I-35W project spans 10 miles in Fort Worth from north of I-30 to US 81/287. It is being built in coordination between NTE Mobility Partners Segments 3, LLC (NTEMP3) and TxDOT. I-35W from north of I-820 to US 81/287 reached substantial completion in Dec. 2016. I-35W from north of I-30 to north of I-820 reached substantial completion in July 2018.
Construction began in fall 2020 on the next phase of I-35W from US 81/287 to Eagle Parkway. This public-private project will rebuild 6.7 miles of I-35W and add four TEXpress Lanes, auxiliary lanes and some frontage roads. The project reached substantial completion in June 2023, three months ahead of schedule.
