Bicycles are vehicles, too. As a clean mode of travel that improves health, reduces stress and relieves traffic congestion, bicycling plays a unique role in meeting Texas’ local transportation challenges.

We regard bicycles as major components in Texas’ transportation picture. TxDOT has a state bicycle program coordinator and a Bicycle Advisory Committee, and each of its 25 state districts has its own district bicycle coordinator who serves as a point of contact with the public on local biking matters.

Bicycle safety is important to TxDOT. The Safe Routes to School program promotes cycling and walking as alternatives to driving. And TxDOT continually works to make roadways more bike-friendly.

Whether you’re riding to work, to school, for exercise or just for fun, cycling is a great way to get around. TxDOT wants to encourage Texans to ride, and to do it safely and responsibly.
