US 81/US 287 - projects

US 81/US 287 - Avondale-Haslet Road to I-35W

TxDOT is proposing improvements to US 81/ US 287 from south of Avondale-Haslet Road to l-35W in Tarrant County, Texas.

Proposed project improvements

The proposed project would:

  • Add one inside mainlane in each direction
  • Construct new continuous one-way frontage roads
  • Convert existing two-way frontage roads to one-way frontage roads

The existing interchanges would be reconstructed. Willow Springs Road would be reconstructed to cross under the US 81/ US 287 mainlanes, an interchange is proposed at Heritage Trace Parkway, and Wagley Robertson Road would be connected to the proposed frontage roads. Entrance and exit ramp locations would be adjusted to provide more efficient access to adjacent land uses. Additional right of way and denial of access at ramp locations would be necessary to accommodate the proposed improvements.

The first project at Harmon Road and North Tarrant Parkway would construct frontage roads north of Harmon Road to west of IH 35W. The project would consist of one northbound exit ramp to North Tarrant Parkway, two southbound ramps to and from North Tarrant Parkway/Harmon Road. Bridges would be constructed at Harmon Road and North Tarrant Parkway, along with intersection signals.

US 81/US 287 frontage roads: Rhome to Avondale

TxDOT is proposing improvements to the frontage road system along US 81/US 287 from north of Pioneer Road to south of Avondale Haslet Road in Wise and Tarrant Counties, Texas.

Description

The proposed 10-mile project would include:

  • Reconstruction the US 81/287 main lanes from north of Pioneer Road to Avondale Haslet Road
  • Reconstruction and add an additional main lane (three main lanes in each direction) south of Avondale-Haslet Road to the southern project limit
  • Construction, or reconstruction, and conversion of frontage roads to create a continuous one-way system within the project limits

The frontage roads would include:

  • Two travel lanes on either side of US 81/287
  • Left turn lanes at cross streets
  • Adjacent shared use paths for bicycle and pedestrian accommodations within the project limits

The proposed project also includes new overpasses at County Road 4840 and Future Northstar Parkway, a new underpass at Ramhorn Hill Road, and new direct connectors at State Highway 114 East. Additionally, the proposed project would include operational improvements to existing cross streets, ramps, and auxiliary lanes.

The proposed project would require approximately 16 acres of new right of way and denial of access at ramp locations to accommodate the proposed improvements; however, no residential or non-residential structures would be displaced. The proposed project may be constructed in phases based on funding availability.
