FM 2154 (Wellborn Road) widening

TxDOT in collaboration with the city of College Station is proposing improvements to FM 2154 (Wellborn Road) from SH 40 (William D. Fitch Parkway) to Greens Prairie Road in Brazos County, Texas.

Goals

The goals of the project are to enhance safety, increase capacity for anticipated future traffic and provide bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

Existing roadway

The existing FM 2154 (Wellborn Road) between SH 40 (William D. Fitch Parkway) and Greens Prairie Road consists primarily of a two-lane undivided roadway, which widens to accommodate a center turn lane at various intersections along the corridor. The existing right of way width varies between 90 and 170 feet. Currently, there are no dedicated bicycle and pedestrian accommodations along the corridor.

Proposed roadway

The proposed FM 2154 would be widened to accommodate four lanes, two in each direction, separated by a raised median. At primary intersections, the raised median would taper to accommodate a dedicated left turn lane. Additional improvements include curb and gutter, and a shared-use path along the east side of the roadway.

The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right of way and potential displacements.
