Open House - Wharton Truss Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Purpose: The Texas Department of Transportation invites you to an open house for proposed improvements to the truss bridge in Wharton. This is your opportunity learn more about the proposed project, talk with project staff and give input on the proposed project. There will be no formal presentation so citizens are invited to come and go at their convenience.
   
Description: The proposed project would include:
  • Replacing rail posts and rail members.
  • Repairing damaged concrete and abutment rails.
  • Cleaning and sealing bridge joint.
  • Repairing and replacing steel elements of the truss bridges.
  • Replacing the truss over span 21 (Warren pony truss span) with a concrete bridge. Existing truss members at this span would be attached to the new slab to keep the appearance of a truss bridge.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
