Purpose: TxDOT invites you to a public hearing for proposed improvements to FM 2493 (Old Jacksonville Highway) in Tyler. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide information.

Currently, an environmental assessment (review of possible impacts the project could have on the environment) is underway. Environmental clearance is expected later this year. All interested persons are invited to attend the public hearing and to provide comments. Written and verbal comments from the public are requested and may be presented for a period of 10 calendar days following the hearing. Written comments may be submitted in person, by email or by mail to the following address:

TxDOT Tyler District
2709 W. Front St.
Tyler, TX 75702

Persons requiring special communication or accommodation needs should call (903) 510-9100 at least two working days prior to the hearing. Because it will be conducted in English, any request for language interpreters or other special communication needs should also be made at least two working days prior to the public hearing. TxDOT will make all reasonable efforts to accommodate these needs. This public hearing will provide the public with the opportunity to review the preferred alternative and provide additional input to TxDOT staff.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 16, 2014, and executed by the Federal Highway Administration and TxDOT.

Description: Improvements to FM 2493 between FM 2813 (Gresham) and FM 346 (Flint) south of Tyler, which will help ease congestion and improve safety include:
  • Widening from a two-lane farm road to a four-lane divided highway with curb and gutter to accommodate expected growth in traffic
  • Center left-turn lane to provide additional safety for drivers
  • Sidewalks for pedestrians
In addition, sight distance at Spruce Hill Road will be improved for driver safety. The project will require the acquisition of new right of way.
