Where: Bulverde Spring Branch Library
131 Bulverde Crossing
Bulverde, Tx 78163
When: Thursday, May 9, 2013
4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Purpose: The Texas Department of Transportation and Comal County invite you to an open house on the US 281 Comal County improvement project. This is your opportunity to learn more about the project and talk with county officials and project staff about the improvements.
Description: The most viable alternative route between San Antonio and Austin is US 281, a scenic highway that traces old Hill Country towns as it moves north and south. Some portions of the highway are still two-lane roadways, though they carry traffic at speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour. The US 281 project will improve safety in this area while planning for projected growth in Comal County.

The purpose of the US 281 project is to improve safety and relieve congestion by adding additional lanes to accommodate growth. The improved highway will also promote economic development in the area.

This project includes:

  • Expanding a two-lane highway into a four-lane divided highway
  • Building new lanes between the Guadalupe River crossing and the Blanco-Comal county line
  • Improving traffic signal-controlled intersections at Rebecca Creek Road and at FM 306
  • Improving the yellow-beacon signal at the intersection of FM 311
