Public Meeting - Public Transportation for Elderly and Persons with Disabilities
Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016
The purpose of the meeting is to gather information from local stakeholders regarding the distribution of funds for the local 5310 Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program. Information will be provided as to the local application process.
TxDOT is hosting a series of public outreach meetings regarding public transportation to enhance mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities in rural communities throughout the state.
Public transportation provides mobility options, reduces traffic congestion, conserves fuel, improves air quality, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports emergency preparedness in the areas it serves.
TxDOT promotes and supports public transportation by collaborating with local governments, nonprofit entities and other transportation providers. TxDOT provides funding to assist the needs of elderly individuals and persons with disabilities when current transportation service is unavailable, insufficient or inappropriate.
The Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program provides funds for services for seniors and individuals with disabilities. The way the funds are being distributed has changed. The public is being invited to provide input regarding the distribution for the fiscal years 2017-18 available to the local area. Information will be provided by the local public transportation coordinator regarding the application process for the funds.
Special accommodations: If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend this meeting, please call 512-360-0668 or by email at least five working days prior to the meeting. Please be aware that advance notice is requested as some accommodations may require time for TxDOT to arrange.
