FM 2220 (Ware Road)
Notice draft environmental assessment and opportunity for a public hearing
|Public comment deadline||All hearing requests and comments must be received on or before Friday, Aug. 5, 2022.|
|Purpose||TxDOT in coordination with Hidalgo County Pct. #4 and the city of McAllen are proposing to widen and reconstruct FM 2220 (Ware Road) from FM 1925 to Mile 5 Road, Hidalgo County, Texas. This notice advises the public that a draft environmental assessment is available for public review and that TxDOT is affording an opportunity for a public hearing on the proposed project.|
The proposed improvements include widening and reconstructing the existing two-lane roadway to six lanes with an existing right of way of 80 feet wide and proposed right of way of 150 feet wide. The proposed roadway would consist of a 110-foot-wide urban facility with six 12-foot-wide travel lanes, two 10-foot-wide shoulders, a 16-foot-wide raised median, and six-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides. Drainage would be provided by a storm drain system. Left-turn lanes would be added along Mile 6 Road, Mile 17 ½ Road, and Mile 8 ½ Road to improve safety at the intersections. The FM 1925 and Russell Road intersections would be realigned. The existing horizontal curve along FM 2220 would be realigned between Mile 5 Road and Mile 6 Road and three existing drainage ditches would be improved by widening, cleaning and reshaping.
The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right of way and would potentially displace 12 residences and no non-residential structures. Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses. Information about the TxDOT Relocation Assistance Program and services and benefits for those displaced and other affected property owners, as well as information about the tentative schedule for right of way acquisition and construction, can be obtained from the TxDOT Pharr District office by calling Robert Gudino at 956-702-6100.
Any interested person may submit a written request for a public hearing on this project. Written comments from the public regarding the proposed project are also requested. Written hearing requests and comments may be submitted by mail to the TxDOT Pharr District Office, 600 W. Interstate 2, Pharr, Texas 78577 or by email. All hearing requests and comments must be received on or before Friday, Aug. 5, 2022. A hearing will be held if ten or more individuals submit timely written requests for a hearing, or if an agency with jurisdiction over the project submits a timely written request for a hearing that is supported by reasons why a hearing will be helpful.
