|Purpose||The purpose of the public meeting is to present the proposed project to the public and receive comments. The project is proposing improvements along FM 646 from FM 3436 to SH 146 in Galveston County, Texas. The virtual and in-person meeting will consist of the same narrated presentation by the project team, project exhibits and other information, and an opportunity to comment.|
A Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was received on May 23, 2011, to widen approximately 8 miles of FM 646 from IH 45 to Bayshore Boulevard. The portion between IH 45 and Edmund Way (1.3 miles) has been constructed. A reevaluation is being performed for the portion of the project limits, from FM 3436 to SH 146, a total of approximately 0.90 mile. Design modifications would involve: 1) extending the limits of the curb and gutter drainage system; 2) decreasing the proposed shoulder widths; 3) adding truck loons; 4) shifting median openings; 5) adding a shared use path; and 6) minor widening of the proposed right of way (ROW) near FM 3436 and near SH 146.
A total of 0.33 acre of new ROW would be required for the proposed design changes. Although additional ROW would be required, no additional residential or non-residential structures are anticipated to be displaced at this time. Information concerning services and benefits available to affected property owners and information about the tentative schedule for ROW acquisition and construction may be obtained from Andrew Leske by calling (713) 802-5885.
The proposed project would involve an action in a floodplain.
