Open House and Public Hearing – SH 288 Direct Connectors to Texas Medical Center Area

Where: Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions
3100 Shenandoah
Houston, Texas 77021
When: Thursday, June 27, 2013
6:00 p.m. – Open House
7:00 p.m. – Formal Presentation

Purpose: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will conduct an open house and a public hearing to present the recommended alignment that includes two tolled direct connectors for SH 288, in an effort to reduce congestion and improve traffic operations for emergency vehicles, patients, residents and employees moving in and out of the Texas Medical Center area. Additional alternatives were presented previously and public input assisted in the selection of the recommended options. This event will start with an open house, providing citizens with an informal come-and-go opportunity to learn more and talk with staff about the proposed project, ask questions and provide comments about the project proposals. Maps and other drawings showing the proposed improvements will be displayed for review. A public hearing will follow, and will include a presentation on the proposed improvements, and citizens will be able to make comments for the public hearing transcript.

Partners: This study is a partnership between TxDOT and the Federal Highway Administration.

Description: The proposed project would consist of constructing two direct connectors (also known as flyovers):
  • Northbound connector from SH 288 to westbound Holcombe at the Ardmore Street intersection
  • Southbound connector from eastbound Holcombe to SH 288

The proposed direct connectors would be tolled. Additional right-of-way would be required for the project and some displacements would occur. Comments may be submitted online or mailed to the Director of Project Development on or before July 12, 2013.
