Purpose: To present the proposed design changes to State Highway 249 (SH 249) from Farm-to-Market 2920 (FM 2920) to Hardin Store Road, in Harris and Montgomery Counties.

Description: The purpose of the public meeting is to share and encourage comments about the proposed design changes that have occurred from FM 2920 to Hardin Store Road since the March 10, 2005 public meeting. The purpose of the SH 249 project is to reduce congestion and enhance safety by accommodating current and projected traffic volumes for the growing project area and upgrade roadway and bridge designs to current standards.

The proposed design changes include:

  • Redesigned ramps
  • Continuous overpass from Brown Road to Baker Road
  • Overpass at Zion Road
  • Floodplain mitigation area and approximately 5.8 acres of detention in Harris County
  • Floodplain mitigation area and approximately 10 acres of detention in Montgomery County

The proposed design changes would require approximately 26 acres of additional right of way; however, no residential or commercial displacements are anticipated.

The environmental review, consultation and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
