Open House - Texas Historic Bridges

Where: Moody Mansion
2618 Broadway St.
Galveston, TX 77550
When: Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014
4 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Purpose: The purpose of the open house is to build awareness about TxDOT's recent evaluation of bridges in Texas constructed between 1945 and 1965 and the proposed treatment plans for these bridges. Staff will be available to answer questions and will be seeking the public's opinion regarding the proposed treatment plan. No formal presentation will be given.

Description: In its evaluation, TxDOT, in partnership with Texas Historical Commission (THC) and Historic Bridge Foundation (HBF), determined that more than 100 bridges are eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Through a programmatic agreement, TxDOT, THC, HBF and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) agreed to seek the public's opinion regarding the proposed treatment for the NRHP-eligible post-1945 bridges. The proposed treatment plan divides the bridges into three groups based on their relative historic and/or engineering significance. This approach would dictate the type of compliance and mitigation that TxDOT would be required to complete if any future projects would result in adverse effects to the NRHP-eligible post-1945 bridges. More information is available on the Texas Historic Bridges page.

This open house is co-sponsored by Houston Mod, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting knowledge and appreciation of modern architecture and design in Houston and Texas.
