Purpose: The purpose of the public hearing is to formally present the final proposal to the interchange of I-40 at SL 335, with the limits on SL 335 from 34th Avenue to SE 3rd Avenue and on I-40 from Whitaker Road to State Spur 468, for public review and comment.

Description: The Texas Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Amarillo Metropolitan Planning Organization, will conduct a public hearing to present the final proposal to the I-40 at SL 335 (Lakeside Drive) Interchange.

The proposed improvements include the construction of the interchange of I-40 with SL 335 consisting of a frontage road system, a proposed I-40 mainlane bridge, a proposed SL 335 mainlane bridge, and associated direct connectors. The conversion of approximately 2.5 miles of SL 335 from 34th Avenue to SE 3rd Avenue from a non-freeway section to a freeway section (with frontage roads, ramps, grade separations over intersecting cross streets, a four-mainlane section with a provision for future expansion to an ultimate six-mainlane section). The proposed SL 335 bridge would be constructed to the ultimate six-lane section, but will be striped for four lanes to accommodate future expansion of SL 335. The proposed project limits on I-40 are from Whitaker Road to State Spur 468 (Airport Boulevard), a distance of approximately 3.3 miles. Additionally, improvements along I-40 to the mainlanes, ramps and frontage roads will be shown to accommodate the proposed interchange with I-40 and SL 335.

This project is a sub-segment of the SL 335 Corridor Development, which proposes the conversion of the existing SL 335 to a controlled access freeway. For more information, please go to the Amarillo Loop website.
