Public Meeting - I-27 and I-40 Improvements

Purpose:	The purpose of the public meeting is to present proposed improvements to I-27, from 45th Street to Georgia Street, from 26th to 34th avenues, and to I-40 at Bell Street and from Crockett to Georgia streets.

Description:	The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in conjunction with the Amarillo Metropolitan Planning Organization will conduct a public meeting to present preliminary concepts of proposed improvements to I-27 from 45th Avenue to Georgia Street and from 26th Avenue to 34th Avenue and I-40 at Bell Street and from Crockett Street to Georgia Street in Randall and Potter counties, Texas. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 7, 2016, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the TxDOT District Office Building H located at 5715 Canyon Drive, Amarillo, Texas, 79110. An open house will begin at 6 p.m. and will provide information and display exhibits related to the project. A short presentation by TxDOT personnel will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. and the open house will reconvene after the presentation. The proposed project is to address needed bridge repairs/improvements and to improve traffic operations, mobility and safety along I-27 and I-40. On I-27: Proposed repair and widening of the 45th Avenue bridges and ramp improvements from 45th Avenue to Georgia Street on both the north- and southbound lanes. Proposed repair of the 26th Avenue bridges and the widening of the southbound bridge and ramp improvements from 26th Avenue to 34th Avenue on the southbound lane. On I-40: Proposed repair of the Bell Street bridges and the improvements to the intersection and frontage road approaches. Proposed improvements to the west bound exit ramp between Crockett Street and Georgia Street. There will be a need for additional right of way on the proposed Bell Street location only but no residential or business relocations are anticipated. The proposed project’s tentative construction schedule can be obtained at: TxDOT Amarillo District Office 5715 Canyon Drive Amarillo, TX 79110 The environmental review, consultation and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT. All interested residents are invited to attend this public meeting to express their views and discuss the project with TxDOT representatives. Comments may be presented either at the meeting or in writing after the meeting. Written statements may be mailed and postmarked no later than 10 calendar days following the meeting (Monday, April 18, 2016) to the address below.
