TSMO is a set of strategies that improve the performance of travel facilities by enhancing the operational capabilities of these facilities with limited resources while TDM is a set of strategies that manage or reduce capacity demand on the roadway by increasing traveler choices and by adjusting operations in real-time

15.1.1 Purpose and Intended Use

The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of TSMO and TDM definitions, benefits, goals and objectives, and various strategies. The strategies listed in this chapter, which include corridor management strategies, systems management strategies, and others, are meant to assist in developing innovative solutions to various issues faced by transportation systems today and in the future. The intended use is to understand the different actions that may be taken to use or develop said strategies and analyze the impacts they would have on travel facility operations
