TxDOT is developing preliminary plans for the expansion of US 69 from South Town Drive to south of FM 2813 in Tyler, Texas. The project includes expanding the existing four-lane roadway (beginning at Cumberland Drive) to a six-lane divided highway. Other improvements include additional auxiliary lanes at key intersections, the continuation of raised medians, and a grade-separated interchange at US 69 and Cumberland Road.
The project was identified as part of a feasibility study completed in 2018 by the City of Tyler, Tyler Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and TxDOT. The study explored potential mobility and intersection improvements along a five-mile segment of US 69, beginning at Amherst Drive north of Loop 323 to FM 2813 in Tyler, Texas.
Enhancements to this corridor would include:
The project will require the acquisition of additional right of way.
Public input is a highly valued and important part of creating improvements to address transportation needs. It is important to the project team that all interested community members have the opportunity to comment, voice concerns, and ask questions. TxDOT will host two public meetings and a public hearing as part of the project. Details about these meetings will be made available here when they are scheduled.
For a project this size, the preliminary engineering development will take approximately two years. TxDOT anticipates beginning work on the project in June 2019.
