TxDOT is developing preliminary plans for the expansion of US 69 from South Town Drive to south of FM 2813 in Tyler, Texas. The project includes providing additional capacity along the corridor from Cumberland Drive to FM 2813. Other improvements include additional auxiliary lanes at key intersections, the continuation of raised medians, and a grade-separated interchange at US 69 and Cumberland Road.
The project was identified as part of a feasibility study completed in 2018 by the City of Tyler, Tyler Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and TxDOT. The study explored potential mobility and intersection improvements. In 2019, this segment of South Broadway Avenue is #82 on the Top 100 Congested Corridors in Texas.
