Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is developing preliminary plans for improvements to FM 2206 from SH 42 east to Loop 281 in Longview. These improvements will help ease congestion and improve safety through this area.
Enhancements to the heavily traveled corridor include:
In addition, the intersection at Loop 281 will be realigned to improve traffic flow. The project will require the acquisition of new right-of-way.
No additional public involvement is scheduled at this time.
The first public meeting was held on Oct. 22, 2014, to present three alternatives for the project. TxDOT reviewed all comments submitted following the meeting and evaluated the respective impacts of each alternative.
On Aug. 18, 2015, TxDOT hosted a second public meeting to present Alternative A as the recommended alignment. This alternative widens the road to the north and realigns a sharp curve west of Jordan Valley Road. Following another public comment period, TxDOT addressed comments and formulated a final recommended alternative.
On Aug. 23, 2016, a public hearing was held and the final recommended alternative was presented. The recommended alternative can be viewed below under the “Downloads” section.
TxDOT and its consultants have finalized the project’s schematic design and environmental assessment. The project’s FONSI (Finding of No Significant Impact) was received on Dec. 20, 2016.
