TxDOT is proposing improvements to US 79 from 0.5 mile west of FM 487 (Erie Ave) to 0.2 mile east of Highway 77. The project would also include funding from the Texas Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) program awarded to the City of Rockdale to rehabilitate and/or replace the existing sidewalks, handicap ramps, railing, and lighting within the downtown area from Burleson St. to Ackerman St. (FM 487).

Proposed improvements

  • Resurface existing asphalt and replace curb and gutter, pedestrian facilities, and various drainage on US 79
  • Repaint lane markings to improve safety and provide smooth traffic transitions
  • Convert four-lane sections to a three-lane sections - one lane in each direction with a center-turn lane throughout the project limits

A detailed set of design plans and environmental study are being finalized. The project is funded and anticipated to let for construction bids in the Fall 2019 with estimated construction beginning early 2020.

A public meeting is scheduled for June 27, 2019; TxDOT encourages the public to sign up for email updates to be alerted about the upcoming meeting date.
