Bicycle and pedestrian improvements are generally eligible for funding from state and federal transportation programs, either as part of roadway improvements or as stand-alone projects.
Urban bicycle and pedestrian projects may be eligible for a number of federal funding sources through a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). Bicycle/pedestrian projects may also be constructed by cities or counties using local funding sources. Check with your local government or MPO to learn more.
TxDOT’s bicycle and pedestrian funding program administers Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) funds for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure projects in small and medium-sized communities.
