TYLER, Texas – TxDOT is planning to conduct the following construction and maintenance work throughout the district during the Week of August 13, 2018. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure or other unforeseen issues. Slow down and pay attention when traveling through work zones.

Summer seal coat operations have been completed in the Tyler District with the contractor now conducting final cleanup efforts with no impact to traffic. Striping and button installation operations will continue on various roadways for the next few weeks with little traffic disruption.

Anderson County – Palestine Maintenance plans to conduct hot mix blade overlay operations on FM 19 between Neches and Frankston before moving to FM 315 to perform edge repairs from SH 155 to FM 837.  Expect lane closures with flaggers and a pilot vehicle managing traffic control.

Anderson County construction projects updates:

US 79 New Lane Construction Project
• Limits:
From 1.6 miles southwest of Loop 256 in Palestine south to the Trinity River
• Contractor:
Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
• Cost:
$42.7 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2018
The contractor continues to perform closeout activities on this project to expand a 5.3-mile section of US 79 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with a continuous left-turn lane and a depressed median.

SH 19 Widening Project
• Limits:
From 3.6 miles N of FM 837 (Henderson Co. line) south to .4 mile N of FM 321 at Montalba
• Contractor:
Big Creek Construction of Hewitt
• Cost:
$12.5 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2018
The contractor is conducting hot mix paving operations for the surface mix. Expect lanes closures daily and watch for turning truck traffic. The project is widening the roadway with the addition of shoulders and passing lanes. The posted speed limit is 55 mph.

US 79 at UPRR Overpass Project
• Limits:
1.5 miles east of FM 2574 to 0.5 miles past UPRR Overpass
• Contractor:
Drewery Construction Company, Inc., of Nacogdoches
• Cost:
$1.6 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
September 2018
Motorists should use caution when traveling through this work zone as the travel lanes have been narrowed with no shoulder in either direction. Wide loads should seek alternate routes. Watch for construction traffic and be prepared for the possibility of daily lane closures. The speed limit has been reduced to 60 mph on this project that includes, cleaning and painting steel girders, bridge rail replacement, and a concrete overlay of the existing bridge deck.

US 287 Overlay Project (New Project)
• Limits:
0.154 miles south of SH 294 in Elkhart, south to the Anderson/Houston County Line
• Contractor:
Big Creek Construction of Hewitt
• Cost:
$4 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Winter 2018
The contractor will be working on Metal Beam Guard Fence (MBGF) in various areas throughout the project. This work will require shoulder closures in the work areas. The project consists of MBGF upgrades, base repair, mill & inlay, surface treatment, surface hot mix, and permanent striping.

Cherokee County – Jacksonville and Rusk maintenance crews plan to continue hot mix blade overlay operations on SH 110 between US 84 and FM 22 as well as on SH 294 between FM 23 and the Neches River. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

US 69 Widening through Wells
• Limits:
From 2 miles north of FM 1247 in Wells, south to 0.9 miles south of FM 1247
• Contractor:
Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
• Cost:
$17.6 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2019
The contractor continues to place curb and gutter and inlets on the west side of the roadway. The project is widening US 69 through Wells from two lanes to four lanes with new curb and gutter and a two-way left turn lane through town. There are minimal impacts on traffic. The speed limit has been reduced on the northern end of the project until work is completed.

US 84 Restoration in Rusk (New Project)
• Limits:
From US 69 in Rusk to 0.46 miles east of SH 110
• Contractor:
Madden Contracting Company, LLC
• Cost:
$2.7 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Winter 2018
The contractor is scheduled to begin placement of underdrain using daily lane closures. The project will place roadway underdrain and repave the roadway lane through town.

Gregg County – Longview Maintenance crews are conducting pavement repairs on FM 2087 from Loop 281 south to the railroad tracks. Expect lane closures with flaggers managing traffic control.

SH 300/Gilmer Road Overlay
• Limits:
US 80 to FM 2275/George Richey Road
• Contractor:
Madden Contracting Company, LLC
• Cost:
$6.6 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
End of Summer 2018
Alternating nighttime lane closures can be expected from US 80 to Loop 281, Sunday through Thursday nights. Work will be conducted from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., starting Sunday. The project includes placing a hot mix overlay and installing new pavement markings on the roadway from US 80 to FM 2275/George Richey Road.

I-20 Eastbound Lanes Overlay
• Limits:
0.5 miles west of SH 135 to 0.5 miles west of SH 31
• Contractor:
Madden Contracting Co., LLC
• Cost:
$2.5 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2018
The project consists of milling and overlaying the I-20 eastbound lanes and installing Metal Beam Guard Fence. No lane closures are planned for the week.

SH 135 Kilgore Overlay
• Limits:
From North of Traffic Circle in Kilgore to .5 miles north of SH 31
• Contractor:
Madden Contracting Company, LLC
• Cost:
$2.4 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
End of Summer 2018
The roadway is reduced to one lane for southbound traffic throughout the project limits. Pavement repairs are being performed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. The contractor is also conducting bridge rail work daily on the west side of the road and removing concrete traffic barriers.  Motorists should expect delays. Work includes hot mix overlay, new pavement markings, new bridge rail and new Metal Beam Guard Fence.

US 80 Widening in Gladewater
• Limits:
Loop 485 to Locker Plant Road
• Contractor:
Longview Bridge and Road
• Cost:
$3.5 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2018
Phase II construction continues with the roadway reduced to one lane of travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic. Work continues on storm sewer, curb and gutter, and flex-base on the north side of the roadway. The project consists of widening US 80 to four through lanes with a left turn lane from Loop 485 to Locker Plant Road.

Loop 281 at FM 1845/Pine Tree Road
• Limits:
From US 80 to Shofner Drive
• Contractor:
Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
• Cost:
$4.5 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2018
Expect single lane closures as the contractor conducts work on this project. Traffic is in its final lane configuration in each direction. The project includes widening the roadway, installing storm drain, grading and base work, curb and gutter, raised medians, surface, signs and pavement markings.

SH 149 at Sabine River
• Limits:
From SH 322 to approximately one half-mile north of the Sabine River Bridge
• Contractor:
Gibson and Associates
• Cost:
$3.1 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2018
Traffic is in the normal configuration with two lanes flowing in each direction. Expect alternating lane closures daily as the contractor continues work on the project. The project includes constructing new rails and sidewalk on the bridge, increasing its load carrying capacity, and installing new guardrail on I-20.

Henderson County – Athens Maintenance and Special Jobs crews continue seal coat operations on BU 31E from Loop 7 to Carroll Street in Downtown Athens. Delays can be expected during this work. Use alternate routes when possible. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control at intersections.

SH 31 Overlay Project
• Limits:
From FM 3204 E to 0.5 miles West of FM 315 in Chandler
• Contractor:
Big Creek Construction of Hewitt
• Cost:
$2.7 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Fall 2018
The contractor will be installing Metal Beam Guard Fence and pouring mow strips. Motorists should expect nightly lane closures. Expect turning construction traffic exiting and merging into traffic. The project consists of base repairs, mill and inlay, seal coating, surface hot mix, Metal Beam Guard Fence upgrades, and the installation of signs and pavement markings.

Striping Operations

SH 334 from Cedar Creek Reservoir Bridge to east of SH 198; SH 198 from Kaufman County Line to south of Cedar Creek Reservoir Bridge - cement sections only

The contractor is replacing the broken yellow striping and working to complete the final punch list on this Gun Barrel City area project. Additional work includes the application of the final thermos-striping and installing the centerline buttons as the project moves toward completion.

SH 19 Widening Project
• Limits:
FM 1615 South to 0.3 miles south of Coon Creek
• Contractor:
A.L. Helmcamp
• Cost:
$4.9 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Spring 2019
The contractor is placing flex-base on the northbound shoulder and preparing to cement treat the flex-base. The speed limit has been reduced to 60 mph for the duration of the project which consists of adding 10-foot shoulders on both the northbound and southbound travel lanes.

US 175 Widening Project (Phase I)
• Limits:
From 0.1 mile SE of FM 804 near Baxter SE to 1.1 miles E of Loop 60E at Larue
• Contractor:
A.L. Helmcamp, Inc. and Big Creek Construction
• Cost:
$39.2 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
September 2018
The contractor has implemented a new traffic pattern that separates westbound and eastbound traffic. Motorists should observe advance warning signs and message boards directing traffic to the proper lanes. Hot mix paving and seal coat operations continue on the westbound lanes from Baxter to one mile east of Larue. Watch for trucks entering and exiting the work zone. Expect brief delays in construction areas around county roads 4710, 4712, 4713, 4719, and 4720 as well as Loop 60. The speed limit is 55 mph on this project to expand US 175 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with a depressed median.

US 175 Widening Project (Phase III) in Anderson County
• Limits:
From 0.85 mile E of FM 315 in Poynor SE to .5 mile NW of SH 155 at Frankston
• Contractor:
A.L. Helmcamp, Inc.
• Cost:
$27.6 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
October 2019
Traffic is on the westbound lanes as an undivided highway running east/west as work is conducted in the eastbound lanes. The contractor is working in the two southern most lanes from Elm St. to Cemetery Road to install drive pipe and box culverts. Installation necessitates the continuation of clear/grub, demolishing existing culverts, and excavation. SW3P items are continuously installed and repaired on this project that is expanding US 175 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with a depressed median.  

Rusk County – Henderson Maintenance crews plan to conduct edge work on SH 42 from FM 850 to FM 2012, and on FM 2276 from Loop 571 to US 259. Expect lane closures with flaggers and a pilot car providing traffic control.

US 259 NB Overlay
• Limits:
From US 79 in Henderson to Jarrell Creek (2.8 miles north of FM 1798)
• Contractor:
Madden Contracting Company, LLC
• Cost:
$5.2 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
October 2018
Expect alternating lane closures starting August 16 as the contractor places hot mix on the US 259 northbound lanes only. The project includes milling, applying a hot mix overlay, and installing new pavement markings on the roadway. Expect delays!

Smith County – Tyler Maintenance crews plan to conduct edge work on FM 1252 from FM 757 to the county line. Routine ditch maintenance will be conducted at locations on various roadways around the county. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

Legacy Trails – Hike and Bike Trail Development
• Limits:
West Trail: Three Lakes Pkwy to FM 2813; East Trail: Three Lake Pkwy to Cumberland Rd
• Contractor:
Reynolds & Kay LTD.
• Cost:
$4.6 million
• Anticipated Completion Date: 
Spring 2019
No lane closures are planned as the contractor continues sidewalk construction along the West Trail between CR 164 and Oak Creek Blvd. The project consists of constructing 4.4 miles of hike and bike trails in Southwest Tyler. It includes the construction of parking lots, driveways, landscaping, pedestrian ramps, crosswalks and drainage structures along the 10-foot wide hike and bike trails.

Spur 248 Widening Project
• Limits:
From 1.75 miles west of FM 848/Old Omen Road going east to SH 64 southeast of Tyler
• Contractor:
Lonestar Equipment Company, Inc.
• Cost:
$8.6 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2018
Alternate routes are encouraged to avoid the daily lane closures utilized for the contractor to lay hot mix and place striping. The speed limit is 55 mph during construction to widen Spur 248 from two lanes to a four-lane divided roadway with a flush median.

Turn Lanes Project
• Limits:
Various locations throughout Tyler
• Contractor:
Lonestar Equipment Company, Inc.
• Cost:
$2.4 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Fall 2018
Work continues to construct right turn lanes on Grande Blvd. at Old Jacksonville Hwy. Expect delays on both roadways with daytime lane closures in place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for pavement work, and construction of sidewalks and ADA ramps. The project is removing the existing medians to extend the turn lanes and add right turn lanes to various intersections in Tyler. Work locations include US 69, Cumberland Road, Independence, South Donnybrook, Rice, South Town and wrap up at Grande and FM 2493.

FM 346 Bridge Replacement Project
• Limits:
FM 346 at Prairie Creek, south of Lake Tyler
• Contractor:
Stateline Construction, LLC
• Cost:
$2 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Spring 2019
The contractor is scheduled to perform earthwork operations on the bridge approaches and begin placement of the bridge drilled shafts. The work zone is 45 mph. The project is replacing the existing bridge with a wider one.

CR 356 & CR 234 Bridge Replacement Project
• Limits:
CR 356 at Simpson Creek, east of Winona; CR 234 at Mud Creek
• Contractor:
Stateline Construction, LLC
• Cost:
$800,000.00
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Spring 2019
The contractor will be pouring the bridge deck on CR 356. Both bridges are closed for this project to replace the existing bridges with wider ones.

US 69 Resurfacing Project
• Limits:
From FM 346, south to the Cherokee County Line
• Contractor:
Drewery Construction Co. Inc.
• Cost:
$3.6 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Fall 2018
The contractor will be performing cleanup operations and backfilling pavement edges utilizing daily lane closures. The project consists of pavement repair and placing a new Permeable Friction Course (PFC) surface.

I-20 Ramp Improvement Project
• Limits:
From US 69 to Jim Hogg Road
• Contractor:
Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd.
• Cost:
$14.8 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2020
The contractor is clearing ROW. The project consists of ramp improvements and construction of frontage roads.

Van Zandt County – Canton Maintenance plans to implement overlay operations on FM 859 between FM 1395 and SH 19. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

SH 64 Widening Project
• Limits:
From FM 16 to FM 858
• Contractor:
Big Creek Construction of Hewitt, TX
• Cost:
$9.6 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
December 2019
Work is underway to extend cross culverts and install driveway pipe. Expect daily lane closures. The speed limit has been reduced to 60 and 50 mph along the limits. The project consists of grading, structure work, striping, sign upgrades, and widening the roadway with the addition of shoulders and passing lanes in each direction. 

I-20 Westbound Exit Ramp at FM 314 Relocation Project
• Limits:
From FM 314 WB Exit Ramp and Frontage Road
• Contractor:
Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
• Cost:
$4.6 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2018
No lane closures are anticipated as final cleanup activities continue on this project that consists of reconstructing the frontage road and building a new exit ramp 1.13 miles east of FM 314.

I-20 Safety Work
• Limits:
From Kaufman County Line going east to SH 19, etc.

Fall 2018
The contractor continues to work on Metal Beam Guard Fence and concrete mow strip along FM 85 in Henderson County. No lane closures are anticipated.

SH 243 Widening Project
• Limits:
From SH 198 east to SH 64 in Canton
• Contractor:
Longview Bridge and Road
• Cost:
$6.2 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2018
Structure, road widening, and driveway work, is ongoing on the north side of the road. Minor delays can be expected but no lane closures are planned. The project is widening the roadway from two to four lanes with a flush median, curb and gutter, and storm drain.

FM 314 Widening Project
• Limits:
From I-20 to the Van Zandt/Henderson County line
• Contractor:
A.L. Helmcamp, Inc., of Buffalo
• Cost:
$11.9 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Summer 2018
Cleanup activities continue from I-20 to SH 64. Temporary lane closures are possible.

FM 1256 Widening Project
• Limits:
From FM 316 eastward to SH 19
• Contractor:
Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., of Longview
• Cost:
$5.8 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Fall 2018
The contractor continues roadway rehabilitation and widening operations with driveway and guard fence underway. Base preparation work is underway. Expect delays with a pilot vehicle and flaggers controlling traffic.

FM 1652 Rehab Project
• Limits:
From FM 17 to FM 1255
• Contractor:
Highway 19 Construction, LLC
• Cost:
$4.5 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Fall 2018
Rehabilitation and widening work is being conducted on a two-mile section on the south end of the roadway. Pavement base preparation is ongoing on this project that is widening the existing roadway and includes structure work. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

FM 1653 Rehab Project
• Limits:
SH 64 near Ben Wheeler, southwest to FM 858 at Martin Mills
• Contractor:
Drewery Construction Company, Inc., of Nacogdoches
• Cost:
$3.9 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Fall 2018
The contractor is working to finish grading of road and ditches with prime coating possible in some areas. The project consists of rehabbing and widening the roadway. Expect lane closures and delays with flaggers providing traffic control.

FM 1861 Rehab Project
• Limits:
From SH 19 to FM 2339
• Contractor:
A.L. Helmcamp, of Buffalo, TX
• Cost:
$2.4 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Fall 2018
Current work includes applying a seal coat and placing rock rip-rap. A temporary traffic signal, in conjunction with a pilot car, is providing traffic control on this project that consists of rehabilitating and widening the existing roadway. Expect delays!

County Road 1825 Bridge Replacement Project
• Limits:
CR 1825 at UPRR .01 miles S of US 80 to SW of Grand Saline
• Contractor: Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd.
• Cost:
$1.5 million
• Anticipated Completion Date:
Fall 2018
Traffic rail work and grading are underway. CR 1825 is closed to traffic at the railroad crossing for the duration of construction.

County Road Bridge Replacement Project
• Limits:
CR 3415 at Giladon Creek, CR 1903 at Mill Creek Relief, CR 2142 at Caney Creek

$904,800.00
• Anticipated Completion Date:
December 2018
This project consists of the replacement of three county road bridges in Van Zandt County. Work is underway on the CR 1903 Bridge at Mill Creek Relief which is closed for the duration of construction.

FM 16 at FM 314 Intersection Improvements
• Limits:
Intersection of FM 16 and FM 314
• Contractor:
Reynolds and Kay, LTD.
• Cost:
$497,000.00
• Anticipated Completion Date:
October 2018
This project consists of paving and drainage improvements at the intersection. Final surface pavement, roadway striping, and sidewalk ramps will be installed. Expect delays due to one-way traffic with a pilot car and flaggers providing traffic control.

Wood County – Mineola Maintenance crews plan to conduct street sweeping operations on SH 11 and ditch maintenance on SH 154. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

SH 182, etc., Safety Treating Project
• Limits:
Various Roads - Current work on FM 182 from FM 17 to SH 154

The contractor is conducting structure and driveway work on SH 182. Expect single lane closures and minor delays with flaggers providing traffic control. Work also continues on the FM 49 cross structures. Expect minor delays due to periodic single lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

I-20 Total Maintenance Contract

Gregg, Smith and Van Zandt counties

Routine maintenance activities are ongoing on I-20 with moving operations throughout the week:
- Debris Removal: Monday and Friday on the outside lane through all three counties
- Debris Removal: Tuesday and Thursday on the inside lane through all three counties
- Debris Removal: Wednesday on the service roads
- Guardrail Repairs: Tuesday through Gregg County
