TYLER – The Texas Department of Transportation is preparing to start construction on a new SH 334 bridge between Gun Barrel City and Seven Points in Henderson County. The $42 million contract has been awarded to Austin Bridge and Road, and work, which will relieve a traffic bottleneck, is scheduled to start in March.
According to TxDOT, the project includes building new westbound structures, widening the island section, and utilizing the existing structures to carry eastbound traffic. When complete, there will be four travel lanes from Gun Barrel City to Seven Points. The estimated completion date is fall 2020.
The project, originally, scheduled to let in 2027 due to the uncertainty of funding, let in December 2018. The Texas Transportation Commission approved $27 million in construction funding in 2017, and an additional $15 million in 2018.
A pre-construction meeting with the contractor is planned in early March at which time the construction timeline will be presented.
