PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that a project to reconstruct the frontage roads and reconfigure ramps on US 75 at Spur 503 in Grayson County begins this week.

Contractor Ed Bell Construction Company was granted 250 working days, weather permitting, to complete this project valued at more than $4.6 million. The contractor anticipates setting barricades July 16 and beginning work soon thereafter. The target completion date for this project is December 2020, officials said.

The contractor will reverse the location of on- and off-ramps to improve traffic safety and provide better access for southbound traffic on Spur 503 and US 75, and reconstruct the frontage roads at this location. Lane closures will be required on the main lanes and frontage roads of southbound US 75 while this project is underway, officials said.

The project will be completed using phased construction, to ensure an on-ramp is open at all times for southbound traffic coming from US 75 to FM 691. The contractor will also add a new ramp from Spur 503 to the frontage road, and reverse the two ramps on US 75 to shift merging movement from the main lanes of US 75 to the frontage road, officials said.

Contractor crews will work from 7 a.m. until dusk. Travelers in this area should be prepared to follow marked detours or use alternate routes while this project is underway, officials said.

Motorists who travel regularly in this area should also remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
