PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that two road improvement projects will begin next week on FM 38 in Lamar County and Delta County.
Contractor A.K. Gillis & Sons, Sulphur Springs, Texas, was awarded the contract for this project valued at more than $2.4 million. The contractor plans to complete the work in 128 working days, weather permitting, with a target completion date of October 2018. The contractor anticipates that construction will begin on April 9, 2018.
The work on FM 38 in Lamar County will extend from the intersection of FM 38 and US 82 southward to FM 1509, approximately 2.5 miles, officials said. Contractor crews will restore the outside edges and level the full width of the existing pavement at this location.
The work in Delta County will extend from the intersection of FM 38 and the Lamar-Delta County line southward to FM 128, approximately 1.7 miles. At this location the contractor will reconstruct and widen the existing pavement from 22 feet to 24 feet, officials said.
Access to adjacent properties will be maintained while both projects are underway. The road will be open to traffic at all times, but will require temporary one-way lane closures at times. Flaggers will be on hand to direct traffic during lane closures, officials said.
Motorists who travel frequently in these areas should remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
