PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that State Highway 78 in Bonham, Texas, will be closed at its intersection with US 82 from 9 p.m. Feb. 4 to 6 a.m. Feb. 5 as part of the ongoing US 82 expansion project in Northeast Texas.

During that time the project contractor, Austin Bridge & Road Services LP, will set girders for the new State Highway 78 bridge at that location. Northbound SH 78 traffic will detour onto the eastbound US 82 frontage road turn-around, and southbound SH 78 traffic will detour to State Highway 121, officials said.

Austin Bridge & Road Services LP is currently expanding US 82 from two lanes to a four-land divided highway with a depressed median, from one-half mile west of SH 121 in Bonham eastward to approximately six-tenths of a mile east of State Highway 56 in Honey Grove, Texas.

Motorists who regularly travel in this area may at times encounter temporary lane and shoulder closures while this work is underway. They are asked to pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel cautiously through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
