ODESSA – A project to connect FM 3503 with JBS Parkway in Ector County will begin the week of Aug. 6, 2018.

The project will realign a section of FM 3503 to connect with JBS Parkway at an intersection to provide better access to the south industrial district. The intersection will be controlled with a four-way stop as well as left-turn lanes and right-turn acceleration lanes.

The project will also eliminate a curve on FM 3503 where the four-way stop intersection will be in place.

A section of the existing FM 3503 will remain in place to basically become an extension of Atwood Avenue. A cul de sac will be placed on the southern end of Atwood to maintain existing access for property owners in the area.

At times, a pilot car will be in use to take motorists through the work zone. A temporary traffic signal will also be in use at times during the project. Temporary signals should be obeyed just like regular traffic signals. Motorists are reminded that state law requires them to obey any warning signs and flaggers encountered in the work zone.

A work zone speed limit of 45 miles per hour will be in place. Extra law enforcement may be requested at times to patrol the area.

The project is expected to take about nine months to be completed. It was requested by the city of Odessa and approved by the Permian Basin Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Jones Brothers Dirt & Paving of Odessa won the job with a low bid of nearly $1.9 million.
