REEVES COUNTY – A project on Highway 302 in Reeves County is scheduled to begin in July. This project will begin at U.S. Highway 285 Orla and go to East FM 1933 near Mentone.

This project is designed to add passing lanes throughout the 5.6 miles. The project will also rehabilitate the road as well as make improvements at key county road intersections to provide turning lanes.

The plan is to widen the road first, and then rehab other sections of the road. This will keep two lanes open to motorists for the majority of the project. There will be a phase of one-lane traffic when the Pecos River bridge is being worked on.

The project will have speed limit reductions of 10 miles per hour from existing speed limits. It will also have width restrictions of 11 feet in the work zone.

Saturday work will also happen frequently. The plan calls for the road to be open on holidays.

The project is scheduled to be completed in late 2019.

It is extremely important that commercial drivers and the traveling public obey all traffic laws in work zones. Speeding and passing in no passing zones can be deadly. State law requires drivers to obey any warning signs, flaggers and pilot cars in work zones.

Jones Brothers Dirt & Paving of Odessa won the project with a low bid of a little more than $12.5 million.

This is the sixth active work zone in the Delaware Basin. Four projects are active on U.S. highway 285 between Pecos and the state line. A fifth project is in progress on RM 652 near Orla.
