Commission Approves New Projects for Lufkin District

Texas Transportation Commissioners on Thursday approved $1.1 billion in new construction contracts for the state, including $5.5 million in new contracts located in the Lufkin District.

Those new construction projects include:

  • Nacogdoches County: A $2.9 million construction project was approved for FM 2609/Austin Street that will widen the roadway from two to four lanes from BU 59/North Street to Raguet Street. Drewery Construction Company, Nacogdoches, will serve as contractor for the project. No timeline for completion has been set.
  • Angelina County: A $1.6 million construction project was approved for US 59 South that is designed to improve guardrail to design standards from SL 287 in Lufkin to the Polk County line, and on US 69 from the Cherokee County line to SH 103. B&E Construction Inc., Hallsville, will serve as contractor for the project. No timeline for completion has been set.
  • Angelina County: A $533,772 construction project was approved on FM 324 that is designed to improve guardrail to design standards and safety treat fixed objects from 0.7 mile south of SH 94 to US 59. AR Brothers Construction Services Inc., San Augustine, will serve as contractor for the project. No timeline for construction has been set.
  • San Jacinto County: A $516.228 construction project was approved on FM 224 that is designed to improve guardrail to design standards from SH 156 North to SH 156 South and on FM 945 from SH 156 to SH 150. Stateline Construction LLC, Texarkana, will serve as contractor for the project. No timeline for completion has been set.

Pre-construction meetings will be scheduled to set timelines prior to construction beginning. As these and other projects begin, motorists are urged to use caution when nearing or driving through a TxDOT work zone. Reduce speed and be alert to workers and moving equipment near lanes of travel.
