Night work will continue for the coming week that requires the US 59 southbound direct connector to be closed near SL 287/South First Street in Lufkin. In addition, a mid-morning closure is scheduled on Monday.

Crews have worked nightly on the flyover to remove asphalt residue from concrete pavement and the work has progressed across the bridge deck and will require the night closure to continue on the 25th and 26th before moving further south to the Whitehouse Drive area. The work has been ongoing on the flyover since March 18th and includes water blasting the concrete bridge deck. Work is also scheduled on Monday that will require a brief daytime closure.

Motorists needing to access US 59 South during the closures will be required to take the South First Street exit. Motorists are asked to reduce speed near the work area and be alert for workers and moving equipment.

This is an active TxDOT work zone. When workers are present, drivers are required to move over if another lane of travel is available. If it is not, speed should be reduced by 20 miles below the posted speed limit.
