The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin a project to add passing lanes on a portion of US 183. The project will span just over 5 miles beginning at Eastland County Road 173 to 5 miles north of Rising Star.

TxDOT awarded the $4,526,013 contract to Ray Farris Construction of San Antonio, Texas. The project will begin on Monday, Aug. 13, 2018 and is anticipated to be completed, weather permitting, in the spring of 2020. Projects of this nature are designed to enhance the safety of the traveling public.

The speed limit in the work zone will be lowered to 65 mph for the safety of motorists and work crews. TxDOT asks motorists to be alert, follow all traffic signs, and adjust speed with any new traffic pattern during construction.

Safety is a top priority at TxDOT. It is the foundation for the agency’s planning, building, and maintaining of projects across the state. When driving through a work zone, here are some simple steps to take: slow down, pay attention, avoid distractions such as cell phones, be patient, and plan ahead.

TxDOT appreciates the patience of motorists and encourages attention to all warning signs within the construction work zone while crews work diligently to complete this work as quickly and as safely as possible.
