Two intersections on Kings Highway (Farm-to-Market Road 989) in Bowie County will have new safety features added during the coming year, according to plans approved in December by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
“A nighttime lighting system will be upgraded and extended at the intersection of FM 989 and US 59 that will have energy efficient LED lighting that will better illuminate the intersections and approaches,” said Rebecca Wells, district traffic engineer for TxDOT in Atlanta. “Advance warning markings will be placed on the highways on US 59, FM 989 and FM 3287 and will also include rumble strips on the pavement to catch the driver’s attention. Stop signs with red blinking LED lights along the edges will also be installed on FM 3287 at FM 989.”
South Texas Illumination of Winona, TX, was awarded the contract for these traffic control projects with a bid of $175,785.
Work on the projects should begin in March and take about four months to complete, Wells said.
