Kelli Speer has been named as the new maintenance for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) office in Texarkana effective Oct. 1, 2017. The TxDOT Texarkana Maintenance Section is responsible for state highway maintenance in Eastern Bowie County and Texarkana.
“We feel very fortunate to have someone of Kelli’s knowledge and experience coming in to replace Scott Smith who has accepted the position district maintenance administrator at the headquarters in Atlanta,” said Glenn Green, district engineer for TxDOT in Atlanta. “She is already familiar with the roadways and the conditions in the area.”
Speer began her career with TxDOT working at the Texarkana Maintenance Section in 1996 and 1997, as a summer hire while attending Texarkana College. She loved the Texas heat, the work and the folks so much that she applied for and accepted a full-time position as a general transportation technician in May of 1998. In 2005, Speer accepted the position as maintenance crew leader and in December of 2012, she moved to the district office to accept the position as Atlanta District safety officer. In February 2015, Speer returned to the Texarkana Maintenance Section to become assistant maintenance supervisor.
Speer is the first female maintenance supervisor to serve in the TxDOT Atlanta District.
