Four intersections in Harrison County will have improvements made to their traffic control systems during the coming year, according to plans approved in June by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
“Two of the projects will be in Hallsville on US 80. The first will be at Tom Brown Parkway, where we will be upgrading the signal lights and adding an offset turn lane for eastbound traffic,” said Rebecca Wells, district traffic engineer for TxDOT in Atlanta. “The second will be at FM 450 where we will be upgrading the signal lights, installing advanced warning signs and adding pedestrian crosswalks.
“Another project will be at the intersection of Loop 390 and FM 1998 in Marshall where we will be modernizing the flashing beacon, installing advance warning signs and adding safety lighting,” Wells said. “The final project will be on Loop 281 at Page Road in Longview where we will upgrade the signal lights, install a raised median and add safety lighting.”
South Texas Illumination of Winona, Texas, was awarded the contract for these traffic control projects with a bid of $877,537.
Work on the projects should begin in September of this year and take about nine months to complete, Wells said.
