The intersection of Farm-to-Market Roads 699 and 2517 will be reconstructed during the coming year according to plans approved in June by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“We will be reconstructing the intersection and its approaches to widen the highway and improve turning radiuses,” said Ray Brady, area engineer for TxDOT in Marshall. “The asphalt pavement will be replaced with concrete to better withstand the heavy truck traffic using the intersection.”

Some of the construction work will require through-traffic on FM 699 to be detoured onto US 59. Detour routes will be signed, and portable message boards will warn motorists before that phase of construction begins.

East Texas Bridge of Longview was awarded the contract for the construction project with a bid of $1.2 million.

Work on the project should begin in September and take about a year to complete, Brady said.
