A section of US 79 northeast of Carthage will receive a new riding surface this year according to plans approved in April by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“We will be resurfacing a 10.6-mile section of the highway from US 59 to 0.2 mile south of Mill Creek,” said Ray Brady, area engineer for TxDOT in Marshall. “We will be making repairs to some of the old pavement and then repaving the entire roadway.”

Madden Contracting Company of Minden, La., was awarded the contract for the construction project with a bid of $9.0 million.

"Work on the project should begin in July and take about six months to complete," Brady said.
